Stuart Mitchell’s Face.
Our friend Stuart Mitchell, who contributed an awesome fashion shoot (the one with girls making their own t-shirts and having tattoos and other rad stuff like that) also sent us his collection of self portraits taken in photo booths. The photos track Stuart’s changing appearance, and more noticeably fashion choices, over the last 8 or so years. We’ll let him tell you about it himself:
I decided to do the passport picture collection thing around 2002; every six months or so, and every time I left the country I had to get a set done. You will notice in the Vegas one that my face is super red. I went in February as I thought it would be cooler (I’m no fan of the heat.) No such luck – I get sunburn. It was taken in a 24hr chemist as I couldn’t find a booth and I was in rush to get my bus back to Los Angeles. The lady in the chemist commented on my redness and when I told her I was Scottish she seemed to understand.
The Paris 2003 one was taken in the Gare de l’Est, it’s the location where a lot of the scenes from Amelie were filmed. That’s my fav movie by the way. The B&W 2009 ones were taken at the recent Rankin show, which I really enjoyed.
The reason I started these shots is that when I got to my 30′s I suppose I wanted to record the process of age. Through head-shots with similar set ups and backgrounds, taken in different places at different times and being in different moods, but always taken with the same purpose; for this project. Maybe it’s me trying to hang onto my youth, maybe it’s me letting it go, I’m just not very sure.
