Alice P.S: New York Travelogue

After Alice’s awesome California Love Travelogue, where she travelled around the west coast meeting all manner of hip hop legends, we were stoked when she told us she’d be taking a little trip over to NYC.

Wu-Tang & Zoo York on Diesel Fluid.

Bringing together two of the finest fixtures of the New York hip hop scene, the Wu Tang Clan and Zoo York, R.B.Umali has put this special skate video together for Wu Tang’s latest single ‘Diesel Fluid’ featuring Method Man, Trife Diesel & Cappadonna. Watch and marvel!

John-elio Reitman’s photo sculptures.

John’s super in to rock climbing, grilled cheese and painting right now, but bun all that because we’ve got some of his photos to show you instead.

Section & Song 1996.

1996 was the year chess computer “Deep Blue” defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov for the first time. The Nintendo 64 video game system hit the world, and Dolly the sheep became the first mammal to be successfully cloned. And who can forget the fucking Spice Girls?

The Decapitator be ripping some heads.

Since being released from a mental asylum two years ago (and having the uncompromising urge to kill since then) The Decapitator has just taken to perfectly recreating a certain part of an advert on a piece of paper that he pastes up over the original, with the star of the advert gruesomely beheaded.

Kelie Bowman wants a hot-tub.

Touring with a circus, giving summer bike tours of Munich (and being run over by police and having your pelvis and back broken cycling in New York) and starting a gallery called Cinders, named after your recently burned down house, isn’t usually what you hear when you ask an artist about their history – you normally get someone bullshit about ‘having the overwhelming urge to create.’

Sisters.

Sporting better hair than At The Drive In and incorporating xylophones and what sounds like a distorted accordion (but is probably a guitar) in to your songs, while being totally awesome at the same time is not easy, trust me I’ve tried.

Violens.

Hey, are you a fan of reverbed out vocals over tight hi-hats and fuzzy guitars? Because if so Violens are the band for you.

New York is full of chatty cupcake guys.

The last time I went to New York a man stopped me to ask for a cigarette, and then launched in to a tyranny of words against ‘the blacks and hispanics on the other side’ and urged me to join him in the good fight. You just don’t get that in London, so of course I was shocked and appalled. Apparently it’s really not that weird though; Anna wrote out a few of the scenarios you might find yourself in wandering through Gotham city.

Bart Simpson tattoos.

Tattoos are rad, I have one of a train on my arm that everyone says looks like Thomas the tank engine, and I want one of a pigeon next to it. We spoke to Mark Cross who’s a tattoo artist based in Brooklyn because we liked his tats of Bart Simpson and bleeding bongs.
