Ashlie Chavez has spent 2010 ‘being exploited on the internet and getting pregnant, one of which wasn’t totally planned.’ Other than that she’s been taking some amazing photos of skateboarders, which we’ll let her tell you about.

‘So my name is Ashlie. I’m a big fan of animals and crawly things. I might be a bigger fan of alcohol. My photography is pretty resourceful- old cameras and cheap film. And when I can’t afford that, I draw. Most of my days are spent with my twin sister, Amber. Even though we’re 23 we still like getting attention from our parents. I’m usually wearing a flannel as a dress. The Skateboarders series started out as a commissioned project from a great core skate shop in the OC but things took a wrong turn and I kept the series as my own. I’d have to say my favorite guy to shoot was Raymond Molinar- just because the kid is so effing photogenic man. And then Ben Paulsrud- a local skate prodigy our of Fullerton who always offers great quiet conversation. The whole experience was neat though. It’s a common notion that girls should steer clear from the skate industry- I guess you could say it was worth it to discover that myself.’
