Then & Now – The Spivs.

THEN

GG Allin – Public Animal No.1 EP

We love GG but this is the only record of his you really need to buy, it’s 5 early songs from when he was 17 playing with the Jabbers. Doesn’t sound like anything else he’s done so give it a chance, it is more pop punk.

Billy Childish & The Singing Loins – At The Bridge LP

Folk songs that sound like they were recorded late at night drunk in the kitchen like what we do on a party night, except these still sound good when you listen to them in the morning.

The Goslings – Between The Dead LP

This is like a doom noise, it is intense. It is a husband and wife duo and they make this horrible evil music in their basement in Florida which is quite a sweet story.

Lee Perry – Blackboard Jungle LP

A beautiful dub album, it doesn’t have all the wild sounds that some dub lps have on them but everything that is there is just perfect so it doesn’t need any gimmicks. Well the left and right channels are two different mixes by different people so that is a bit of a gimmick.

The Stupids - Violent Nun EP

Superfast 1980s skate punk, think they were from Ipswich. The drummer learnt by playing along to Motorhead albums on 45rpm. It’s pop too of course.

NOW

Jay Reatard – Blood Visions LP

Been listening to this over and over recently because he died last month and realised it is the best album of this century so far, wish we’d realised that when he was still alive really but that’s how it goes.

Eat Skull – Wild And Inside LP

This is really wild noisy lo-fi pop punk from the US, at first it sounds like the stereo is broken but then you listen a bit more and it is fuzzy pop songs.

Strange Boys – Strange Boys And Girls Club LP

Don’t really know much about them but they were great live last year, it is a bit garage and a bit punk and a bit country. Singer sounds a bit like Bob Dylan.

Thee Vicars – Let Us Play LP

High Energy!! Party music, it gets people going. They are playing about 400 gigs a year at the moment so everyone can catch them live.

The Spivs – untitled and unreleased lp

What we have really been listening to mostly so far this year is the songs we are recording for this.

Listen to selections from the playlist on Spotify.
