The Cramps at Napa Mental Institution

Categorised as BLOG., MUSIC.

Have we completely lost touch with new content so much so that we now just post old videos for the LOLZ? Possibly, but there are two reasons for this video. Firstly, The Cramps are one of the best bands ever, ever, and this video is a testament to that, secondly it’s an excuse for a shoddy tale.

Last night I was drunk and in Peckham (FOREIGNERS: a gradually gentrifying area of south east London which has artists and stuff but most importantly a lot of cheap space) in what I was told was an old school, and later a ‘children’s home’. However, I wasn’t so convinced. I gradually became convinced that I was in a hospital for people who are sick in the head and because I believed this to be the case my entire perspective on everyone and everything shifted from assuming that peoples normal eccentricities were normal to “Oh shit, everyone in here is fucking insane”. The whole Freudian denial thing happened too, everyone was telling me, “no, this isn’t a hospital. OF COURSE it isn’t a hospital. Do you think they would allow the patients to get drunk in a head hospital?” but of course they would say that, they were in denial and only once they were no longer in denial would they no longer be in the hospital, so their denial proved my worst suspicions that I was, in fact, in Bedlam. But most bizarre of all, even after witnessing people drugged up to their eyeballs on tranquillisers (I’m not sure if this is evidence of anything other than the type of people that I’m inclined to enjoy spending my time with), the hospital beds, the strange behaviours and even the denial, was the fact that no-one seemed to live there. Not a single person I spoke to admitted to being a resident of the defunct institution (which, for the record, was apparently nothing more than an innocent squat), instead it was always “that guy over there’s place”, classic diversion technique? Or maybe I was just talking to all the wrong people and well into a bottle of rum, looking for evidence to convince myself of my own paranoid thoughts…

N.B. I actually think the whole thing had something to do with the EMOTION DRIVEN PROCESS BASED PARALLEL IDENTITIES collective, who are well worth checking out: http://edpbpi.tumblr.com/
