The debut EP from Box of Ghosts came out as a free download last week and has picked up some considerable attention since. Silhouette is heavily vocal driven, with sparing production. There’s a pretty gnarly bassline working its magic under the militant snare which wouldn’t sound out of place on an Amiga, but it’s really all to aid the display of lead singer Sam Mensah’s soulful vocals. Pockets, by comparison allows the rest of the band to shine, mellow electronics, bouncy guitar loops and rhythmic, almost tribal, drums.  The EP sums up what Box of Ghosts are about; soulful electronica for a pop obsessed generation. Pop for the future.
