‘Ready For The Good Life’ is the latest track from Double Denim Records’ Amateur Best, a.k.a. Joe Flory of the now defunct Primary 1. It’s a more organic electro-pop style than his previous work, starting out all starry-eyed before suddenly bursting into some massive, bouncy sub bass slides, providing the heart of the groove alongside reverbed drums. This leaves the hands of Grammy-nominated Canadian musician Chilly Gonzalez to slap some soulful piano all over the beats and bops, whilst Flory does a fine job with some rhythmic vocal hooks. It’s the indie-pop of another dimension. Allegedly the song is “a call to arms to anybody out there willing themselves to better times”, and to be honest it’s definitely quite the up-lifter.
