My Friend Got London 2012 Inked Into His Leg
Halfway through my day I was pulled away from work to witness my outrageous friend’s latest ‘sick thing’. Jethro Holman, the manager of Kent punk band Slaves, came over with the Olympic rings and ‘London 2012′ in block capitals tattooed forever onto his leg. Because of this ‘feat’ he’s now the most qualified person we’ve got access to regarding London 2012, so we thought we’d ask him for his thoughts on the day of the impending opening ceremony. Tattoos are forever kids, don’t forget it.
So Jethro, you got the Olympic Rings inked on your knee, why?
I’m just really, really happy to have the Olympics in London. Just got excited, drove past a tattoo shop in Lewisham, thought I’d bowl in. Got it done man.
What was his reference point for drawing it?
Went on Google on his laptop, searched for ‘Olympic Rings’. He used the same font as on the website and just traced it from the screen.
What are you going to do if the Olympics are a massive, embarrassing disaster?
I’ll just say I got it done on opening cenemony day and that I didn’t know it was gonna go bad. I’m excited for it!
How do you think it’s going to go?
Well I don’t really like Danny Boyle but I think it’s going to be a beautiful moment. I think Mint Magazine has been a little bit negative about the Olympics and I’m just the voice of ‘have a sick time, drink a beer with your mates and enjoy it’.
What about that excites you?
I just think it’s fucking sick man! I love London and I’m pumped for everyone to be seeing it! I can’t wait to watch Usain Bolt.
Is that who you’re supporting?
Yeah man, Jamaica! Jamaica!
Any British athletes?
Oh yeah! All of the Great Britain football team. Tom Daly – he’s a dude. I like the Addidas ad he’s in. Linford Christie, he was a guy, I know he’s not racing now.
Didn’t he get done for doping?
No, that was Michael Johnson.
I think we’re thinking of Dwain Chambers.
I like the little guy, I can’t remember his name, he’s a sprinter. You know, he was a football player last year.
Theo Walcott?
He was in some second division club, Adam Gemili!
Really, I’m just proud that such a history and tradition is coming to our city.
What if we have any other big sporting events in London, will they be getting a spot on your bod?
I think Olympics is the one, maybe a World Cup?
What would you get? THE World Cup?
I would get THE World Cup. Or Frank Skinner holding a Melon.
Are you saving a space on the opposite knee?
I’m only tattooing my left leg.
Are you worried about your legs expanding and the rings taking on a different shape?
I’d welcome the change, mate. You know, that’s life, muscles get bigger and smaller.
What would you say to anyone reading this and thinking something similar would be a good idea?
It probably isn’t a good idea but I’m really glad I’ve done it, I like the colours, I like the picture and also, I love the Olympics.
You only live once?
YOLO man. Carpe Diem. Seize the Day. Dream forever; live today.
Wise words.
