Format Perspective

Posted by Pat Bethell on

8mm film Format Perspective has created a real buzz around Mint HQ, I have already pre-ordered myself a copy.

‘Format Perspective is a film by Phil Evans that explores the work, lives and opinions of six European skate photographers. The film showcases the photography of Nils Svensson (Malmo), Stu Robinson (Belfast), Alex Irvine (London), Rich Gilligan (Dublin), Sergej Vutuc (Heilbronn) and Bertrand Trichet (Barcelona/Tokyo), while also giving us an insight into the different approaches used by this diverse line-up of photographers. Filmed completely on super 8 film, this project gives a behind-the-scenes look at the skating that these guys like to shoot, as well as the resulting photos that emerge from these sessions.’

One Skater One Spot- Leon Clark

Posted by Pat Bethell on

Leon Clark leads us into the winter night, set amongst diffused light and a worn out car park. Leon’s style crossed with the imaginative filming of James Harris has left us all magnetised to that one environment for those 60 seconds…

Vans – Get in the Van part 2 (Best Friends – Surf Bitches)

Posted by Marcus Harris on

We posted a Yoofs track earlier this week and Yoofs posted this earlier, “Our bros from Sheffield, Best Friends are on this new vid from Vans. Check it out”

So what the hell, Yoofs are great, Best Friends make the sort of beach and sun drenched guitar music that skating was probably fuelled by when a surfer stuck some trolley wheels on a 2×4 plank of wood, and obviously Vans are the greatest shoes on the planet. Plus the skating is great, it’s the sort of English skating that Americans will never understand because they are so spoiled by sun blushed rendered concrete and stairs everywhere they look. No, in Britain we are always having to make do on cobbled streets and roads which work through car tyres faster than the drawing part of being hung, drawn and quartered.

To quote vans:

“Back in the long gone days of summer, Powley once again gathered together an assortment of Vans flow riders and took to the roads of the UK looking for spots in his trusty yellow VW wagon, this time around heading towards the South East, landing feet first in Essex.

Waffle-youth’s Nick Remon, Dave Watson, Matthew Nevitt and Jake Collins were all in tow for three days of rain-dodging, DIY spot modification and dealing with overly aggressive OAP pedestrians. We even went to Nick Remon’s native Chelmsford as well – that’s the birthplace of the radio, don’t you know?”

ASOS x Palace

ASOS got together with VICE recently to go film young European guys who are doing cool shit in their own respective countries. Granted, New York, Berlin and Paris have some good stuff going on, but our favourite (totally unbiased) is the London episode where we get an insight in to Palace Skateboards from founder Lev Tanju.

Jason Lewer – There and Back Again.

Posted by Pat Bethell on

Skate film maker James Harris shows us a different way around Bristol, through the smooth style of Jason Lewer.

‘We wanted to show Jason’s day-to-day journey through Bristol, shining a different light on some of the most iconic skate spots in the city by capturing them in an alternative way to conventional skateboard videos.’

Hold tight for some seriously rad edits from James in the future!

Nike Roundhouse

For a second year, Nike put on The Roundhouse in Anglet, middle-of-fucking-nowhere-France, to give local kids an opportunity to surf and skate with their heroes. Nike SB took their team out and, as usual, they killed it. Omar just, you know, ollied up a 5 set like it ain’t no thing, and the rest shredded, but you can see all that above. In case you wanted more, here’s part 2 and 3.

Our friend Matt Murray recently filmed Crawley locals and 360 flow riders, Conor Mannion and Phil Batchelor, shredding around assorted areas of West Sussex. There was an earthquake there yesterday. We wonder if it made everything shake and uncover new areas of skateparks like in Tony Hawks 3.
