Video: NZCA/LINES – Okinawa Channels

Posted by Marcus Harris on

NZCA/LINES second single is doing something very special that’s bringing joy into my cold black heart, they are making the sort of synth pop that not only gets me all fuzzy somewhere underneath my rib cage but also makes me want to get up and dance. The level of subtlety invested in this track with its rumbling bassy undertones and Michael Lovett’s salacious vocals make it a perfect contender for both dancefloor infamy and private reflection, an almost impossible feat to pull off but here NZCA/LINES prove they can do it at will.

Go like them on facebook, buy their records and watch them live, I just delivered your new favourite band to you on a plate.

Video: SISTERLAND – BUNNY EARS

This is how you do D.I.Y in 2012. The Blessing Force lot are always a creative bunch but Sisterland know how to do it on a budget. List of video provisions : dads camcorder, sticky tape and green table cloth. Result…

I don’t know how long this video is going to stay online, it’s a little graphic… In the overly capitalised words of user XplosionMMA:

“HOW THE FUCK IS THIS ON YOUTUBE, IMAGINE A  LITTLE KID WATCHING THIS! SERIOUSLY ? AND  THEY SHOW NO TITS AND PUSSY ON YOUTUBE? MAKES NO SENSE!”

I wonder if our editor came across anything like this when he was searching for porn on Youtube?

The first track to emerge from the new album from Charles Prest aka “Cabaret Scene” is of a jaunty sun kissed bent that disguises its origins in South London garage band recordings. As a member of Flamingods during other parts of his time, the record has ended up featuring contributions from the other guys and comes with a cover photo courtesy of Kamal taken in Cambodia. The album is going to be 8 tracks long and “focus around my fascination of the sea and all things tropical”.

Sam Deschamps – Empty Head

Posted by Tom Hinton on

If you’ve ever come across La Shark live you will be familiar with Samuel Geronimo Deschamps. He was that one up the front. The one who had progressively less clothes on as the show went on until he’d flung himself writhing into the audience, in a manner that suggested he was likely to either cause himself physical harm or be brought up on molestation charges. Away from his band mates Sam is slightly more contained and has recently uploaded some of his solo recordings. You can listen to Empty Head below or follow the link to more songs on his soundcloud page.

Back in the day members of Crushed Beaks and Torches played together in another band. Now that project is defunct and scarcely mentioned but they’re still buds and that. In the interest of displaying such passionate emotions or perhaps out of mutual artistic admiration they’re teaming up to release a spilt download single of covers of each others songs.

There is going to be a release party at Power Lunches on the 10th of March courtesy of Fractions of One to commemorate the occasion.

Download: Gabriel Bruce – Cupid

Posted by Tom Hinton on

We’ve heard very little music so far from former Loverman vocalist Gabriel Bruce. What we have done is striking and he’e definitely someone we’re watching with heaped expectation in the coming months. This isn’t strictly new material of his own, it’s a Sam Cooke cover and as you can guess from the title has been picked with this time of year in mind.

You can catch Gabriel’s debut performance with Amusements in support at the Off Modern show on the 23rd of February.

VIDEO: The Rapture – In the Grace of Your Love

Posted by Tom Hinton on

Last night I was told that The Rapture are born again Christians and that they have recently had to make financial reparations to Sisqo for musically borrowing without permission. I’m refusing to check these facts because I quite like living in a world where they are potentially true. I think that everyone should watch this video imagining that it was made with a idealistic  interpretation of scripture within the participants hearts, the incentive being to make back the money that they had to give to the man responsible for ‘The Thong Song’.

Another Valentines gift but light on the sap. “The perfect antidote for Valentines Day. If you prefer a sweaty gig rather than a candle lit dinner for two, this is for you.” The latest single from the London three-piece Throwing Up probably forces more fun in two minutes than most people managed during the entirety of dinner on the 14th of February.

A really old review of the Flip: Extremely Sorry soundtrack. Baron produced it, he normally makes drum and bass, woaaah.

I was trying to think of a Nirvana song to call this shoot, because you know - the clothes are kind of grungy - but all I could think of…
