Photography: Competitive Spaces by Phil Anderson

Categorised as ART., PHOTOGRAPHY.

“This series aims to explore the relationship that spaces have with their occupants. The spaces that I have chosen are used solely for one purpose; to train, to compete.  The dust on the mats at the bottom of the climbing wall, the hanging up of the gloves after sparring sessions, the cracks tearing through the running track after hours of sprinting back and forth. I wanted to capture the small details, the evidence of how these spaces were being used. For this to be achieved it was best to photograph slowly using large format film, and exploring the spaces immediately after they were vacated by their occupants.

The result is a set of quiet images which attempts to reveal the unnoticed.”
