In the Studio with Coby Walsh
I’ve just turned 24 and graduated three years ago. I like collecting stuff and there’s a good chance I’ll be one of those really old hoarder ladies you see on TV in the future. I lived in Japan for a year and that heavily influenced the way I draw, I am completely obsessed with characters and cartoons. My favourite cartoon show is Rocko’s Modern Life and I really like Anpanman, a Japanese kids cartoon that follows a super hero who has a head made out of bread. His weakness is water and he lets starving folks chomp on his head for sustenance! It’s worth watching, I promise you.
This is my desk. Look at that old relic of a iMac. I think it’s probably on it’s last legs so I mainly use a laptop, but I really like the shape of this computer. I regularly change the photos and stuff I have up around my workspace, it depends on what I’m working on. At themoment there are Dan Clowes and Jon Boam prints, ‘Weird Tales Of The Ramones’ and Yokoland, some magazines and music. This is my desk on a neat day.
A small portion of stuff I collected while in Japan. Stickers, all kinds of paper, origami, notebooks etc. I get a lot of inspiration from theimages and typography on packaging.
Tape madness! I like tape. Maybe a little too much.
I work out of sketchbooks and then scan in and adjust them in Photoshop. I want to get a tablet to work from, maybe one day soon. This is my cat Bella and she can be found sitting on my scanner, my sketchbooks, printer, my lap. She’s a busy body.
Some art books and a small portion of the toys I have. My favourites are the gold lucky cat and the little burger cowboy at the front there. Nintendo NES! Super Mario Bros! From my childhood and I don’t know whether I should have asked before taking it, but I took it anyway.
Fuji Instax Mini photos are great, really fun to mess around with.
