Alexander Bishon Rowland.
Obsessed with social destruction and metaphoric sounds. This bright new talent shows us a new side of fashion photography where beauty has substance.
What inspires you/ where do you start before making your images?
Mostly my inspirations tend to come from my experience with people, and watching the behaviours of others. I tend to over analyse situations and in my work I’m usually attempting to make a visual interpretation of an experience or a feeling without resulting to using an underwhelming narrative. I have masses of sketch books and I’m always writing things down so that’s usually where I start.
How do you feel about the fashion image industry?
It’s an alternative platform for an artist, which doesn’t always work in the interests of some image makers; but personally I don’t think its a bad thing at all.
Do you feel the digital age has effected your photogaphy/imagemaking?
We’ll I always use digital – so without a doubt. I usually am quite specific about what I want to see in an image and I generally find it a lot easier to translate an image from my head to paper when using digital.
Natural vs fake?
Fake of course
Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
No clue but I’ll probably be working on the follow ups to my first short film “for now I’m nowhere”
What are your favourite fashion photographers?
Favourite fashion photographers working at the moment, Willy Vanderperre, Pierre Debusschere, Steven Klein.
